FROM THE MOUNTAINS OF THE MOON TO YOUR MORNING CUP
Deep in Western Uganda, along the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo, rise the extraordinary Rwenzori Mountains known for centuries as the Mountains of the Moon.
In the 2nd century, the Alexandrian geographer Claudius Ptolemy wrote about legendary snow-covered mountains deep in the heart of Africa, which he believed were connected to the source of the Nile. He called them Montes Lunae: the Mountains of the Moon.
But long before they appeared on European maps, these mountains already had a home, a people and a story.
The Bakonzo people have lived among the Rwenzori for generations. Their language, Lhukonzo, their traditions and their identity are deeply connected to this extraordinary landscape.
And somewhere on these mountain slopes, coffee begins its journey to your cup.
A COFFEE SHAPED BY THE MOUNTAINS
The Rwenzori sit close to the equator, yet their high elevations bring cooler temperatures, abundant rainfall and unique mountain conditions. Coffee grows slowly on these slopes, surrounded by fertile soils and a climate that gives the Arabica grown here its distinctive character.
But the mountains alone don't make the coffee exceptional.
It is made by people.
Smallholder farmers across the region carefully grow and harvest the coffee that begins this journey. Every cherry carries something of its origin: the mountain, the climate, the soil, the farmer and generations of knowledge. Every bean begins with a place. Every bean begins with a person. And every bean carries a story.
BUT WHY SHOULD THE STORY END IN A SHIPPING CONTAINER?
For too long, much of Africa's coffee story has ended when the raw coffee leaves the continent.
We believe the story should continue here.
That is why our mission is simple but ambitious: to take coffee from grown in Africa to made in Africa AND building value through the entire journey.
Our coffee begins in the Rwenzori Mountains of Uganda and continues through Kenya, where we work to transform these African-grown beans into the coffee that ultimately reaches your cup.
